“Best of the Year” judging and critiques by Henry Rowan from among the award winning images from the 2024 Berks Photographic Society competitions. Eligible winners of this event will be submitted to the International Michael Day Competition in January 2025.
This is the fifth year that Henry has agreed to judge the Best of the Year Competition for us. Henry is a national award-winning photographer and a frequent lecturer and judge throughout the region. Henry started by reminding everyone that he is judging from his perspective and that we may not agree with all his comments about our photos. He said that it is important to remember that it is your opinion of your photograph that counts and not a judge’s opinion. Henry’s judging was very educational with comments and suggestions about individual entries. At the end of the contest, he went into Adobe Photoshop and Camera Raw and edited some of the contest photos to show how he would change them. He showed us relatively simple ways that he uses to process many of his photos. He applied these changes to some of the contest photos and showed the before and after.
