SUMMARY:Skylum Software Update - Frank Plucinsky
DESCRIPTION:On November 2 at 7:30 PM\, Frank Plucinsky will present a “Skylum Software Update” in a Zoom session to the Berks Photographic Society (BPS). \n  \nSkylum’s Luminar 4 can be a plugin for Lightroom and Photoshop as well as a standalone image editor. New photographers will appreciate the simple one-click presets (looks) and the user-friendly interface. Photo enthusiasts and professionals will find amazing AI (Artificial Intelligence) tools\, and other editing tools such as brushes\, masking\, layers\, and blending modes. Luminar takes the complexity out of photo editing and makes hard things simpler\, easier\, and fast for everyone. Just move a few sliders in a fast\, more efficient\, nondestructive workflow. Photographers of all skill levels use Luminar to make beautiful images and so can you. Come and see how to make your images AWESOME. \n  \nFrancis (Frank) Plucinsky is a retired physician with a lifelong fascination of photography\, natural history\, and fly-fishing. Yearly pilgrimages to the western states to photograph the mountain landscapes and the wildlife and to trout fish help satisfy these fascinations. \nFor non-members interested in attending this session as a guest\, please refer to the BPS website for information on membership (www.berksphotographic.org) &/or email BPS at info@berksphotographic.com for a guest pass to the meeting. Such requests must be made by the Friday\, October 30. \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:“Wabi-Sabi” presented by Lisa & Tom Cuchara
DESCRIPTION:On November 16 at 7:30 PM\, Lisa & Tom Cuchara will present their new program “Wabi-Sabi” via Zoom. This program will explore the beauty of imperfect and/or unconventional subjects. This program highlights subjects that are not perfect\, such as flowers that have character\, double headed flowers\, decaying fall leaves\, the deformed coneflower that stands out as flawed and hence different and beautiful\, rust as it creates abstract patterns amidst the decay\, etc. We will also explore the concept of slowing down and appreciating the beauty of everyday life\, things that might be overlooked. Wabi-Sabi teaches one to find beauty in everyday life. It is a kind of anti-aesthetic\, an alternative to the dominating discriminatory ideas we hold about beauty.\n“Wabi” means a beauty of elegant imperfection. “Sabi” means aloneness. Together\, they suggest the beauty of ‘the withered\, weathered\, tarnished\, scarred\, intimate\, coarse\, earthly\, evanescent\, tentative\, ephemeral’ ~ Crispin Sartwell\, Six Names of Beauty. It is used to describe a particular philosophy that beauty can be found in the old\, the everyday\, the imperfect. \nLisa Cuchara\, PhD\, Master Craftsman (PPA)\, Master of Photography (M. Photog.) HonNEC is very passionate about photography and enjoys both being behind the lens and in the digital darkroom. She loves to photograph nature but finds many subjects equally intriguing. Lisa and her husband Tom are known for their expertise in Photography and in Photoshop\, and for their inspirational and informative photography workshops. Lisa has created numerous award-winning photographic images and enjoys sharing her vision\, passion and her knowledge! Her photographs have appeared in Adirondack Life\, Wild Bird\, Birder’s World\, in calendars\, on the cover of a fictional paperback novel\, in galleries and exhibitions\, and been accepted into the PPA loan collection. Lisa & Tom have published two books with Amherst Media “Create Fine Art Photographs from Historic Places and Rusty Things” and “The Frog Whisperer”. Check out Lisa and Tom and their photography classes\, photo tours and workshops at www.photographybylisaandtom.com. \nThis free meeting will be held via Zoom. Details are in the BPS member center on our website. For non-members interested in attending this session as a guest\, please refer to the BPS website for information on membership (www.berksphotographic.org) &/or email BPS at info@berksphotographic.com for a guest pass to the meeting. Such requests must be made by the Friday\, November 13

SUMMARY:BPS Scavenger Hunt
DESCRIPTION:BPS Scavenger Hunt \nBPS will be hosting a Scavenger Hunt virtually this year. In order to allow for better social distancing\, we are expanding the length of time for this event from the traditional 6 hours to 48 hours! This will also allow members in different time zones to participate and everyone can fit it in around their personal schedules and commitments. \nThe topics will be announced via email by Ken Martin\, who is organizing this session\, on November 20 at Noon EST to all those who have pre-registered. You will then have until November 22 Noon EST to submit your images. As in the past\, no post processing will be allowed on images. Images are to be shot and submitted as jpegs. You will be required to rename each image with the topic # and your contestant ID\, which will be provided upon registration. If you will be shooting on a phone or other device\, please plan accordingly so that you are able to rename the files and avoid submission issues the weekend of the scavenger hunt. Also\, as the time period is 48 hours\, leave plenty of time to upload the images. At the cutoff of Noon on November 22\, no further uploading will be allowed. \nThe judging will be performed by Vince Pellegrini\, Bill Coughlin & Mark Searfoss. The judging results will be reviewed at the November 23 Monday night BPS meeting. \nIn order to participate\, you must be registered by November 16 at MN EST so that we can prepare for the event. To register\, please send an email to Ken Martin at kmartin2@ptd.net.

DESCRIPTION:BPS member Valerie A. Hoffman will present “Finding Beauty in the Broken” via Zoom. \n  \nThis program will cover a variety of abandoned\, broken and rusty subjects that Valerie has encountered along the road.
