DESCRIPTION: January 6\, 2025 at 7:00 PM: Vince Pellegrini will teach us about “Focus Stacking and Some Other Neat Things”  \nVince Pellegrini will talk about his use of focus stacking from beginning to end. \nVince has been using creative focus stacking in a different way than it is typically applied to large landscape scenes & macro work. Specifically\, he uses this technique with a wide aperture to control the depth of field for images with complex backgrounds resulting in precise subject isolation & beautiful bokeh. Both manual & in-camera automatic techniques will be reviewed in detail along with his workflow in Adobe Lightroom & Photoshop & the Helicon Focus app. \nIn this example\, the scene on the left required a single aperture setting of f/22 in order to have the green & white moss “acceptably” sharp front to back. However\, at that f/stop\, the background was too much in near-focus & was very distracting. The dim forest light was also an issue. The image on the right resulted from combining 25 images at f/2.8 while eliminating the remaining 21 captures thus stopping the final image focus in post exactly where desired. \n \n\nTotal sequence: \n \nIf time allows\, Vince will also review some other neat & practical topics. These might include a follow up of Jonathan Vaines’ recent BPS talk\, such as building a diptych or more in Adobe Lightroom & in-camera multiple exposure “coloration” which came up during the Q/A as well as some Adobe Lightroom processing tips. \nSee examples of Vince’s work on Instagram at @vincentapellegrini.
